RESEARCH MANAGER , Society for Family Health


Society for Family Health (SFH) seeks an experienced individual for the position of Research Manager. This is a long term position. S/he will work closely with Director – Research, Monitoring and Evaluation (DRM&E) and other staff. This position is based in Lusaka, Zambia.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Developing annual Research Plans and budgets.
  • Coordination of surveys and evaluation activities working with SFH, local research organisations or universities and Population Services International (PSI).
  • Monitor and evaluate activities to provide information needed to design and implement social marketing programs and evaluate their impact.
  • Organise short-term and long-term formal and informal research projects for SFH with technical assistance from the DRM&E and PSI.
  • Facilitating informational needs of SFH through further analysis of secondary data and SFH survey data with technical assistance from the DRM&E.
  • Facilitating communications among SFH, Local Research Organizations, various stakeholders and PSI.
  • Identifying training needs for Research Analysts in order to build capacity for high quality and timely research within the SFH research unit.
  • Perform study scheduling, conduct literature searches and prepare research manuscripts and research presentations.
  • Preparation of reports of completed projects for publication in technical journals for presentation to stakeholders or for use in further applied or theoretical research activities.
  • Coordinate planned dissemination of research findings.
  • Coordinate ALL research activities being implemented in-house as well as those with partners.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Demography/Populations Studies, Statistics, Epidemiology/Public Health or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years experience with quantitative survey and qualitative research techniques including research design, sampling, questionnaire design, interviewing techniques, focus groups moderating, analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and write-up of results.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience at Management Level.
  • Experience in operational research, design of data collection tools, strong data management and statistical analysis skills.
  • Experience in statistical software for data analysis, database development and maintenance, data storage and file manipulation.
  • Experience with computer software for data entry and analysis, including STATA, NVivo, EpiInfo and SPSS.
  • Competency in word processing and spreadsheet software (Word, Excel).
