GENDER SPECIALIST - Plan International Zambia

Plan is seeking personnel to fill the positions of Gender Specialist and Cultural Communications Advisor on the USAID – funded Zambia Community HIV Prevention Project.
1) Gender Specialist
Position Description
The Gender Specialist position is a full time position on the USAID funded Zambian Community HIV Prevention Project. He/she will represent Plan International on this consortium; reporting directly to Plan’s Program and Strategy Manager (PSM). The Gender Specialist will have overall responsibility and lead the Gender component of the project. He/she will be responsible for ensuring that gender consideration is integrated into all areas of the project including implementation to ensure that the approach is indeed gender-transformative.
Responsibilities
  • Understanding the Zambia Community HIV Prevention and Project (ZCHPP), Country Strategic Plan (CSP)and thereafter contribute to the development of the Gender strategy and SBCC strategy for the project
  • Contribute to BCC messaging around gender inequality, sexual and gender based violence (SGBV), gender norms and cultural practices that lead to SGBV
  •  Responsible for the design, development and implementation of the Gender approach, which clearly outlines how gender will be integrated across the project and within all programmatic elements of the project
  • Ensure Plan’s CCCD and child protection principles are fulfilled during project implementing, monitoring and evaluating, and reporting.
  • Work with local partners in integrating gender across all elements of their programs to include materials, community mobilization activities, dialogue with community leaders and religious leaders, to ensure all activities are gender transformative
  •  Establish in-house networks to ensure that gender consideration is integrated into all areas of the project and that approaches are gender-transformative.
  • Document guidelines, achievements and best practices in the area of Gender for internal and external circulation
  •  Ensure the gender component design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting are aligned to ZCHPP’s Project.
  •  Contribute to the development of gender-sensitive indicators and oversee the inclusion of gender-disaggregated data in the project’s M&E framework to ensure lessons learned contribute to gender transformation
  •  Support and build the capacity of project staff and local partners to work with communities in identifying gender-based constraints and strategizing solutions to promote women’s empowerment and gender equality in project activities
  • Design and conduct gender trainings for project staff and local partners on gender inequality, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), gender norms and cultural practices that lead to SGBV.
Key Qualifications and Skills
  • Degree in Development studies/Social sciences or related discipline.
  • A Master’s Degree or higher will be an added advantage
  • 7 -15 years working experience in the above fields
  • Extensive experience working in the field of gender and social transformation to include the design and implementation of gender approaches
  • Expertise in gender methodology; concepts and social norms
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multicultural environment.
  • Excellent networking and partnership skills
  • Strong training and facilitation skills.
  • Strong team building and motivational skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a part of a team
  • Computer proficiency (MS Word, Excel)
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent grasp of gender programming concepts
