DEPUTY HEAD TEACHER


Our Client, a well-established School, seeks to recruit a Deputy Head teacher.

DEPUTY-HEAD
The Deputy-Head is responsible to the Headmaster and then to the Board of Governors. The Deputy-Head normally has a 40% reduction in teaching load. The post includes the following duties;
• construction of the school timetable and homework timetable and all preliminary work
• organising staff cover and room changes
• taking a lead in all academic matters including curriculum planning and encouraging curriculum development
• advising new staff on all academic matters
• writing Job Descriptions for all academic staff
• organising and running the Option Programme for Form 4&5 and keeping records of all Option Groups and Teaching Sets in the school
• advising the Headmaster of future staffing and accommodation needs
• organising internal school examinations (mid-year, end of year, 'mocks') including; writing examination and invigilation timetables, setting deadlines for the writing of papers, monitoring the typing, duplicating and storage of examination papers, preparation of examination rooms and ensuring that the examinations are conducted in a professional way
• co-ordinating the report writing process including; briefing new staff, checking stocks of report slips, setting deadlines and monitoring standards
• compiling reports, recommendations and information on pupils transferring to other schools
• constructing Weekday and Weekend Duty Rotas; controlling changes, checking weekend programmes, monitoring and maintaining standards
• establishing Dining Hall and Prep routines; monitoring their effectiveness, notifying staff of any changes and maintaining standards
• running the Student Representative Council; organising pupil elections, writing the constitution, observing and advising at SRC meetings
• maintaining the school Rating System; issuing Credit Cards to Class Teachers at the beginning of term, issuing replacement Credit Cards and giving punishments as necessary, organising and chairing meetings to decide on Rating Changes, ensuring that ratings are displayed on the school notice board and that a record is kept of all pupil ratings
• be available to assist staff with pupil discipline problems
• ensuring that each classroom has the correct furniture, particularly at the beginning of term and half-term, and after school functions and exams
• testing all prospective Form 1 pupils and advising on their suitability; co-ordinating the testing of pupils for other Forms and compiling recommendations for an appropriate Form/Set
• holding parent interviews in Lusaka or Kitwe/Ndola once a term. Available at beginning and end of term to discuss academic matters with parents
• meet with the Headmaster and Administrator to review salary scales, assign new staff to a point on the salary scale and review the position on the scale of staff whose responsibilities change
• chair Heads of Department Meetings. Attend Executive Committee, Management Team, Application and Bursary Committee, Administration and Standing Committee Meetings. Member of the school Appraisal Team. Attend Board Meetings by arrangement
• act as Headmaster in the Headmaster's absence
