HEALTH SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER


DEPARTMENT: HEALTH AND SAFETY
POSITION: HEALTH SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER
PURPOSE:
Oversee the implementation of all Occupational, Health and Safety (OH&S), Environmental and Food Safety policies and procedures within areas under your jurisdiction as well as ensuring continuous training of all staff in OH&S, Environment and Food Safety
QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
  • Minimum of a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform job duties may be considered
  • Creative, self motivated, proactive and confident
  • Creative and able to be innovative
  • Experience in managing a diverse team
  • Sufficient Knowledge in Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety and Food safety
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • 3 – 5 years work experience in the same capacity. A minimum of (2) two years work experience in the hotel will be an added advantage.
Age: Above 28 years
RESPONSIBILITIES
VEHICLE
  • Carry out weekly audits on all vehicles both company and hired in all the units
  • Keep an up to date register of all vehicles in your projects
  • Enforce both company driving regulation
  • Ensure daily cleaning log sheets are completed for all vehicles being used to transport food
PPE DUTIES
  • Inspecting staff’s PPE periodically and ensuring that it meets the required standard at all times
  • Ensuring that staff wear appropriate uniforms at all times and no one is found without the required uniforms
  • Control the uniform issuing process.
PAPER WORK
  • Maintaining and updating the HSE filing system in place at the units
  • Update all paper work i.e. daily, weekly, monthly promptly and file
  • Ensure any due diligence record not captured in filing system is filed away safely
OPERATIONS
  • Attending to all daily, weekly or monthly meetings
  • Carry out audit using the prescribed audit checklist at least once a week for F&B, laundry and accommodation and at least once every fortnight for maintenance operations
  • Follow up on corrective/preventive action from company audits/inspection and ensure they are closed out
  • Posting daily report on the bulletin board daily
  • Complete and send all required report i.e. daily, monthly etc to all the required people
  • Participate in the day to day activities of the project and a team player at all times
  • Give suggestion to management on ways of improving HSE and documenting suggestions
  • Organize and participate in the daily safety meetings and weekly meetings
  • Assisting managers/supervisors to conduct risk assessment/job hazard analysis on all jobs both new and existing that are performed in the unit and maintaining records of the same
  • Organize and ensure all staff undergo medical examination as prescribed in the medical policy and procedure and declared fit before they start working.
  • Induct new staff on general health and safety
TRAINING
  • Food Safety Training – Ensuring that all staff are trained in basic food hygiene regardless of the department they work. All food handlers, supervisors and managers must be trained in Intermediate Food Safety
  • Equipment Use Training – Training all staff on how to identify hazards when using tools and equipments
  • Training Attendance – You must attend all relevant and mandatory trainings that are carried out and ensuring that all required staff also attend, these training will include but not limited to fire fighting, first aid, hazard identification etc
  • Induction – Ensure all new staff attend induction program prior to commencement of work
  • Training Matrix – Keep the training matrix updated at all times
SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT
  • Carrying out audit of suppliers using the prescribed checklist of both existing and prospective suppliers, send report to management for review and approval
  • Audits must be carried out following the appropriate procedures as prescribed on relevant documents
  • Communicating findings of supplier audit report to the supplier and follow up to ensure corrective/preventive actions are addressed
  • Must ensure all procurements are from approved suppliers
  • Must liaise with Procurement department in managing suppliers
