SENIOR INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANT , UNICEF ZAMBIA


The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Zambia is looking for suitably qualified candidates to apply for the following vacancy:
Senior Information Communication Technology Assistant (ICT) – Fixed-Term Appointment, GS-7 (General Service Category, Level 7), for 1 year (renewable) to be based in Lusaka.
The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Information Communication Technology Officer.
Duties
1. Assist in implementing corporate Applications
  • Assist in implementing Global rollouts, upgrading corporate applications and network operating.
  • Provide support to all users in using the corporate applications and escalate any issue to the Global Help Desk.
  • Assist in organizing the user training for new systems and applications
2. Assist in managing the office network and ICT resources which includes:
  • Monitor and analyses network statistics, applications logs and firewall logs.
  • Conduct routine monitoring of the WAN link in Country office to ensure its continuity.
  • Carry out routine maintenance procedures for all servers under the guidance of ICT Officer
  • Enhance network availability and service levels by establishing routine maintenance procedures, heightening security and user access rights.
  • Provide support in implementing new operating system upgrades and replacing computer hardware
  • Maintain data backup in a manner that allows easy retrieval /restore and complies with UNICEF standards and perform regular maintenance on systems to keep them running in good condition.
3. Provide user support and assist in providing training in the areas of information technology and business applications which includes:
  • Organize orientation and refresher sessions to enhance the knowledge of Users in using the ICT systems more effectively and efficiently.
  • Provide support and guidance to the users for using online shared storage (Teams site and OneDrive) and network shared storage.
  • Assist in trouble shooting to resolve ICT service calls assigned to Lusaka helpdesk.
  • Provide support in conducting induction for new staff on internal ICT Policy, procedures and using the ICT resources.
  • Compiles Frequently Ask Questions and maintains knowledge databases for eventual distribution available to users in country office.
4. Provide support in maintaining ICT Disaster Recovery Plan and data backup which includes:
  • Assist in supporting the implementation of routine ICT disaster recovery procedures including daily backup.
  • Documenting network processes, procedures, software, tools and issues. Classifies and maintains the network documentation.
  • Providing support in updating Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and ICT Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) and help in conducting simulation.
  • Implement routine ICT disaster recovery procedures including daily backup.
5. Provide support in enhancing office knowledge management to meet the office’s information needs which includes managing the network shared drive, and online OneDrive for Business.
6. Perform other ICT related duties as required
Qualification Requirements
Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical diploma or university degree in the field of IT with specialized training in Network Administration, Software applications, data and telecommunications, as below:
  • Theoretical foundations of computer science with practical applications of software, database, network, telecommunications and systems development.
  • Specialized training in information systems technology, organizational functions and general management.
  • Training in: information systems principles, database management systems, structured systems analysis and design; information systems project management; information systems planning and policy; operating systems; client/server applications and environment;
  • Specialized training in Networks, computer networking, management of network, telecommunications policy and environment; distributed information systems; information security and control. Microsoft Certification an advantage. Seven years progressive work experience in information management with Network, System Administration, Software development, Data and Telecom solutions at national levels. Hardware related experience will be an asset. Experience in training, support function is necessary for a field office to function properly.
