The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are seeking to fill an international consultancy position of Web Content Editor/Strategist, based at our Headquarters in Rome, Italy for an initial contract period of 6 months with possibility of extension. Do you have extensive experience defining a web content strategy?
Do you not mind getting your hands dirty with the entire content lifecycle: analysing, planning, writing, editing, distributing, managing and monitoring content? In this role you will also help tell the overall WFP story through meaningful and impactful content. You will coordinate editors throughout the organization to ensure that we produce content that highlights WFP's expertise and results. You will also help ensure that our content is both useful and accessible to all our audiences.

Reporting to the Head of Web and Social Media, the Web Content Editor/Strategist will be responsible for the following key duties: Web Content Strategy and Governance
  • In collaboration with the Head of Web and Social Media, develop and execute a web content strategy that supports the organization's overall communications strategy.
  • Develop standards, systems, workflows and best practices for Web Content.
Content Management and Development
  • Lead the content development process and hold accountability for planning and creating content for wfp.org.
  • Establish best-in-class storytelling that delivers the right content in the right formats, to the right audiences in alignment with priorities and marketing/communications themes.
  • Create and write copy for web pages, stories, and blogs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members on content ideas with the aim of creating dynamic, impactful and differentiated content.
  • Manage, update and maintain the online communications editorial calendar.
  • Manage the content translation process.
  • Chair regular editorial planning meetings.
Content Quality Control
  • Provide editorial review and proofread (read, evaluate and edit) of various content types to detect and correct errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to web editors to ensure that online content adheres to the organization's brand position, visual identity guidelines, voice and tone.
  • Ensure that content meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 level AA.
  • Test and troubleshoot new and updated web content.
  • Review and continuously improve existing content.
Content Marketing
  • Develop and implement content marketing strategies and tactics.
  • Increase conversions through regular a/b testing of content.
  • Ensure all web content follows SEO best practices.
Training, Support and Collaboration
  • Provide training and support for web and social media content writing, accessibility, and content marketing best practices.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Education
  • Advanced University degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, and Multimedia or other related area, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or advanced training/courses.
Experience
  • A minimum of five years' experience as a Web Content Editor/Strategist, or similar roles.
Technical skills & knowledge
  • Proficiency with Content Management Systems (preferably Drupal).
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to provide recommendations based on insights.
  • Aware of SEO best practices.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility best practices.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, consulting skills and ability to collaborate and work well with others.
  • Ability to define and implement communications, advocacy and branding strategies.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Communicates sensitively, effectively and creatively across different constituencies.
  • Analytical skills and results-oriented.
  • Willingness to build capacity of others through formal and informal training process.
  • Ability to prepare relevant documentation and training material.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and attention to details.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural team environment.
Language
  • Fluency in oral and written English.
  • Knowledge of a second official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) would be an advantage.
