Medical Detailers (Ndola, Kabwe, Lusaka, Choma)

Society for Family Health (SFH) is a leading Local Zambian Organisation with programmes targeting malaria, child survival, HIV and reproductive health. SFH work ranges from on the ground implementation of health services, and community programs to distribution of health care products and services to the most vulnerable populations, provides life-saving products, clinical services and behaviour change communications that empower the most vulnerable populations to lead healthier lives.
SFH seeks experienced individuals for the position of Medical Detailers. These are specialized sales representatives whose main purpose is to influence the knowledge, skills and behaviours of medical providers (private, public and community-based) to increase demand for and access to HIV self testing kits and additional services. They provide informative and accurate product information to clinicians and providers; dispelling misconceptions surrounding particular products. They ensure that the product is available to and acceptable by the general public.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Promote use of and sell HIV self testing (HIVST) kits to retail and wholesale drug establishments such as pharmacies and to educate distributors and customers about the new product, and explain characteristics and clinical studies conducted with HIVST kits.
  • Provide technical support to the community based distributors for HIVST kits, including additional post test services available.
  • Train CBDs on the HIVST product and ensure the right key messages are used in their communication interventions on the brand
  • Identify distribution outlets for HIVST kits in the community and review community distributers sales performance
  • Regularly visit outlets to create brand loyalty, provide product and information. This includes expanding the product positioning by the provider within their treatment regime and dispelling myths about products
  • Ensure that outlets are well stocked in with HIVST test kits and IEC materials
  • Report regularly on progress made to the Sales and Distribution Manager
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in nursing or Diploma in clinical medicine
  • Master in Public Health is an added advantage
  • At least 3 years working experience handling HIV testing and community based activities including counselling
  • At least 2 years experience in training clinical and community service providers
  • In-depth knowledge of the provincial and district level public health environment required
  • Private experience, particularly interface with pharmaceutical organizations is an added advantage

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work within cross-functional teams and work cooperatively and comfortably with all levels of contacts
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness of information
  • Strong report writing and facilitation skills to support meetings with a variety of stakeholders
  • Should possess strong listening, enhanced communication, facilitation, analytical problem-solving , and negotiating skills
  • Highly motivated, organized and able to work independently with minimum guidance
  • Results oriented
  • High level of integrity
  • Willingness to travel to and within field platforms on a frequent basis
