IT and Web Design Intern

The Zambian Governance Foundation (ZGF), set up in July 2009, offers capacity development and funding to strengthen civil society organisations’ ability to influence pro-poor policy in Zambia. The Foundation provides assistance to a wide range of Zambian civil society organisations, from well-established to small and emerging based in both rural and urban Zambia.  ZGF would now like to hire an IT and Web Design Intern to support the ZGF programme team in the ICT and corporate communications function.
The candidate will provide daily support and troubleshooting of ZGF’s ICT systems and also support ZGF in managing internet connectivity through liaison with its ISP to ensure continuous availability of electronic mail, internet and communication on the LAN and WAN.  S/he will support the communications team in updating ZGF’s websites and contribute to ZGF’s online presence via social media. The candidate   should have the ability to transfer skills in basic web design technology (using WordPress) to the team members.
Roles and responsibilities include:
  • Guaranteeing the smooth running of all ICT systems, including anti-virus software, print services and email provision and content management systems
  • Assist in the design and development of information systems.
  • Managing and maintaining hardware including servers, laptops, modems and other components
  • Evaluating user needs and system functionality and ensuring that ICT facilities meet these needs
  • Scheduling upgrades and security backups of hardware and software systems
  • Ensuring that software licensing laws are adhered to
  • Securing data from internal and external attack
  • Offering users appropriate support and advice
  • Managing crisis situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems;
  • Supporting the communications team in maintaining and managing WordPress sites including skills transfer
  • Supporting communications team’s social media management strategy
Individuals must be / must have:
  • Sound understanding of management local and wide area networks (essential)
  • Must be able to manage network system and trouble shoot (essential)
  • Knowledge of Object Oriented programming (essential)
  • Knowledge of content management systems and web design (HTML, JavaScript, WordPress and CSS) (essential)
  • Ability to transfer basic web design and maintenance knowledge (essential)
  • Computer and Internet/search engine savvy to perform online research (essential)
  • Ability to manage tasks and work to deadline (essential)
  • Ability to manage MS SharePoint (advantage)
  • Have a good knowledge of D Space (advantage)
  • Ability to write simply with a conversational style (advantage)
Education and training:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology or other relevant field
