FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION MANAGER , International School of Lusaka


Job Title: Finance & Administration Manager
Introduction
The International School of Lusaka is the oldest international school in the city and has served the youth of Zambia for over fifty years.The school educates 650 students from the age of 2 to 18 years.
Overall Job Purpose
The Finance and Administration Manager provides strategic leadership and takes responsibility for all finance and administrative functions. The FAM ensures that resources are secured, safeguarded and utilised for intended purposes. The primary responsibility of the Finance and Administration Manager is to oversee all aspects of the School Accounts so that they are efficiently administered, subject to strict control and maintained to international standards.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Develop, implement and maintain financial management procedures, risk assessments and control measures to manage, monitor and audit transactions and to ensure compliance with the school’s overall policies, good practice standards and national laws and regulations, identifying corrective measures as required.
  • Consolidate financial information and provide narrative for management accounts to support financial decision-making
  • Lead the financial forecasting process to produce relevant, accurate and timely financial forecasts for the school
  • Facilitate and co-ordinate both internal and external audits and lead the development and implementation of action plans based on audit recommendations, monitoring progress on achievements. 7
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that the purchasing procedures and stock control systems throughout the School are developed and maintained to the high standard of efficiency, and that appropriate records are kept.
  • With particular reference to fee notes, the Finance and Administration Manager shall be required to meet with and correspond with parents as necessary, to clarify matters relating to fees payment, and to resolve any disputes in accordance with policy decisions, as directed by the Head of School.
  • As a member of the senior management team, the Finance and Administration Manager will work collectively and individually with the Head of School and the Deputy Head of School to develop high level of administrative efficiency within the School, and to formulate policy proposals for the consideration of the Board of Governors.
  • He/She will take the lead in the area of Human Resource Management and evaluation of all unionized and contracted support staff- working closely with the Human Resource Officer
  • Ensure that relevant reconciliation, financial reports and audits are completed accurately, on time and submitted as appropriate.
Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor of Accountancy degree or equivalent
  • Full Accounting professional qualification/certification e.g. ACCA, CIMA and Membership of the Zambia Institute of Certified Accountants (ZICA)
  • Master’s degree in Finance and or Business shall be an added advantage.
Experience, Skills and abilities
  • Minimum 35 years old, 10 years experience with 5 years senior management level experience in finance and accountancy in a major organization.
  • IT literacy and excellent knowledge in using computer based accounting systems and Microsoft Excel and Word packages.
  • Experience in preparing and monitoring budgets & developing performance monitoring and reporting systems.
  • Good knowledge in working with local legislation including tax systems.
  • Risk analysis and risk management experience.
  • Experience in educational and multicultural environments will be an added advantage.
  • High level of integrity is required.
