The World Food Programme (WFP), the food assistance organization of the United Nations is seeking applications from qualified national candidates to fill the following position(s):
Post Title: Senior Program Assistant
Post Grade: G6
Contract Type: Service Contract (SC)
Duty Station: Lusaka, Zambia
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Programme Assistant will report to the R4 Programme Officer to support the implementation of the R4 programme.
Specific tasks and responsibilities will include:
  • Provide primary assistance in the implementation of the R4 work programme, including some specialized support in a specific area(s), e.g. programme management, database management, etc.
  • Provide programme management support to the R4 projects members, ensure effective follow through on actions with partners, other CO programme units and with Technical Leads (TLs).
  • Keep the Programme Officer and others informed about project status and issues that may impact its implementation.
  • Review the project plans regularly to ensure tasks and milestones are being achieved in a timely manner.
  • To produce timely technical and management reports.
  • Track and retain all processes and initiatives designed to promote knowledge sharing and learning.
  • Maintain records on programme activities and conduct project analysis ,by extracting relevant information from reports, mission reports, financial reports and other documentation;
  • To promote programme awareness and visibility.
  • Tracking and reporting on appropriate aspects of the team’s operational activities.
  • Attend meetings, draft minutes and ensure timely clearance and distribution.
  • Maintain up-to-date work unit project and other files.
  • Serve as a back-up to other staff on project.
  • Ensure close coordination with CO Programme teams and Units that are relevant to the success of R4 programme;
  • Perform analytical tasks as may be requested by Technical Leads (TL) from time to time.
  • Perform any other duties as required.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
  • Degree in Rural Development/Agriculture Economics, Agriculture, Social Science, Disaster Management, Environmental and Natural Resource Management related to Climate Change.
  • At least three years of progressively responsible experience in the civil society or private sectors preferably in a project/programme that involves management of multiple partners, closely related to project management.
  • He/she should have a thorough knowledge of project planning, management and monitoring and evaluation systems as well as a high level of analytical capability and excellent interpersonal, writing and oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to liaise and deliver in partnership with government, NGOs and other actors
  • General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration is highly valuable.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to facilitate workshops, negotiate agreements, and write publishable reports.
  • Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet applications (MS-Word, Excel, etc
