Markets Support Officer , Mayukwayukwa, Zambia


Job Title: Markets Support Officer

Job purpose:
The principle purpose of the position is to achieve the project’s objective to improve beneficiaries’ Access to Formal and Informal Financial Services and Market Opportunities.
The candidate is also expected to contribute to the overall 2016 LIP objective to enhance the livelihood options of former Angolan refugees and Zambians who  have and will resettle in the Mayukwayukwa resettlement area through need based training,  selected provision of agricultural input packages and market linkages to help them optimize the use of their newly-allocated land. Attainment of this objective will help to reduce the vulnerability of the target households and reduce the level of dependency of the target community on external food and cash support. 
Main duties and responsibilities: 
Interactions with Markets:
  • In coordination with the DPC, PSO, CDFs and other IPs, review and revise the strategy for the market Component of the LIP  including:
    • Development of marketing and basic business management training manuals.
    • Contributing to the actualisation of the marketing component of the annual work plan.
    • Ensure that the seed, input and equipment supply is addressed and adequately supported in the marketing strategies.
    • Identify through the value chain process the best options for Concern to engage with other stakeholders/IPs.
  • Support beneficiary groups in marketing and business development by;
    • Facilitating the formation of VSLAs.
    • Organise and support cascading trainings for the marketing groups as per operational manual.
    • Supervise the activities of the marketing groups/VSLAs by ensuring business plans are developed and reviewed by the leadership of the groups.
    • Based on the marketing/VSLA manual, support the groups’ consuming marketing activities to actualise the business plan.
    • Facilitate the conducting of forums between beneficiaries and possible buyers of various products.
    • Provide linkages to the groups with private sectors at local, district and national levels through conducting market research and analysis.
Overall programme management and support:
  • Support day to day high quality project implementation against work plan.
  • Provide technical support to Concern LIP staff and beneficiaries regarding markets through trainings and reviews.
  • Work closely with Caritas Cech on the use of the bulking centre.
  • Training of beneficiaries on the benefits of the ‘Economies of Scale’ and support the use of the bulking centre in Mayukwayukwa.
  • Training of beneficiaries in leadership and group governance.
  • Ensure effective rollout of the marketing strategy and conduct refresher training to project staff.
  • Agree the data needs for the marketing component with the PM&E officer and work with all staff to ensure monthly data is collected, analysed and reviewed in a timely manner
  • Ensure the transparent and cost-effective use of resources within the project in line with Concern policies.
  • Provide monthly qualitative and quantitative reports and help to feed into annual report
  • Facilitate the integration of HIV & AIDS and Accountability within the project.
  • Participate in project relevant technical groups/ fora (district, province level) on behalf of Concern.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned by the supervisor not directly connected to marketing.
Other key tasks and responsibilities:
  • To adhere to and support the implementation of the Concern staff code of conduct and Programme Participant Protection Policy as described in the National Staff HR Manual
Education and Qualifications Required:
  • A Diploma in marketing or a related field.
Experience Required:
Essential:
  • At least 1-3 years’ work experience in agriculture related marketing.
  • Experience in community-based programming, including training of and working with small scale farmers
  • Experience in working with partners/ partnership management.
  • Demonstrable understanding of gender and women’s empowerment concepts and work experience in the same.
Desirable:
  •  NGO experience most preferable
Special skills, aptitude or personality requirements:
Essential:
  • An empowering working style with commitment to capacity building of development actors including partners and beneficiaries.
  • Good understanding of the role of M&E in the project cycle.
  • Good analytical skills including basic statistics
  • Fluent English language communication skills (written documentation, reporting).
  • Strong computer skills particularly Word and Excel.
Desirable:
  • Good understanding of gender/equality issues, HIV & AIDS mainstreaming, advocacy, disaster risk reduction and human rights-based development.
  • Working knowledge of local languages common in Mumbwa.
