Accounts Assistant – Natural Light Project x 1 (6) months)

Working in Zambia since 1996, Plan International Zambia’s development and capacity building programmes focus primarily on education, health and sanitation, economic empowerment, and child protection and participation. Plan’s work is guided by our Child-Centered Community Development (CCCD) approach. Plan International Zambia has programme units in: Central, Luapula, Eastern, province and in Lusaka, where the Country Office (CO) is located.
Plan’s is looking for innovative, motivated self starter individuals to fill the following vacancies:
Accounts Assistant – Natural Light Project x 1 (6) months)
The Accounts Assistant’s main role is to perform various accounting responsibilities as delegated by the Grants Accountant in order to provide all necessary financial information for the Natural Light Project.  He/she ensures works within set framework  and is a support position that enables the Programs to achieve their results through the provision of necessary finance support.  The incumbent will be reporting to the Grant Accountant and is responsible for:
  • Overseeing the accounts for the sale of Natural Light  Lamps by young sellers
  • Making payments relating to the project.
  • Ensure all transactions are properly entered in SAP.
  • Undertaking at least one monthly field visit  to verify monthly reporting of sales figure to be reported to Plan Zambia and  Denmark
  • Preparation of monthly sales report for Plan Zambia ,Denmark and Little Sun
  • Supporting audit of the Grant at the stage of handing over  the project to the Community Apex Committee
  • Filing of all financial records relating to the Grant
  • Ensuring  that only payments to where all appropriate suppliers has signed the Child Protection policy pass for payment
  • Identifying key risks within area of operation and putting  in appropriate control measures to manage them.
Educational Qualification and Experience
  • Minimum of Certificate in Accounting
  • Higher National Diploma in Accounting or  equivalent qualification will be an added advantage
  • 2-3 year experience with at least 1 year  in a similar role in an NGO environment
  • Communicates clearly and effectively
  • Flexible in his/her duties and maintaining  high level of professional and  accuracy.
  • Appreciation of child rights
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Trustworthy and reliable
  • Strong  computer skills
