listed vacancies that have fallen vacant under its
Directorate of Infrastructure Planning and
Development.
Position Title: Community Development Specialist
Reports to: Manager Lusaka Sanitation Program
Department: Lusaka Sanitation Program
Location: Lusaka
Job Purpose:
To implement sanitation marketing, community
development and hygiene promotion activities in
peri-urban areas in order to enhance community
participation, social and behavioral change among
communities and increase sanitation service
coverage under the Lusaka Sanitation Program
Key Responsibilities
– Ensure that all activities relating to health and
hygiene are carried out to raise awareness and
create demand for sanitation services
– Coordinate the promotion and implementation of
output based funding mechanism among customers
for easy access to funds for sanitation services in
Peri-urban areas
– Coordinate and carry out all needs assessments,
evaluations and surveys related to sanitation and
hygiene promotion
– Facilitate networks and synergies among public,
private and civic organisations to act on key health
and hygiene challenges to enhance access to
sanitation services for the urban poor
– Develop IEC materials for stakeholders and
communities on sanitation issues to raise awareness
– Prepare training programs for sanitation activities
and ensure all the logistics are in place
– Develop Monitoring and Evaluation tools for
community led sanitation and carry out monitoring
and to ensure sustainability
– Coordinate and supervise timely payment of the
contributions by the beneficiaries under the output
based sanitation funding mechanism to enhance
sense of ownership among the communities
– Establish and oversee Community based Sanitation
& Hygiene Social Responsibility Teams (CSHSRT) in all
Peri-urban areas to facilitate sanitation and hygiene
promotion in the communities
– Write and produce leaflets, posters, videos and
brochures to aid health promotion in different
enviroments
– Provide input into consultancy works related to
community development under the project
– Prepare and submit periodic reports to
management
Qualifications and Experience
– Minimum of a degree in Social Sciences
– At least 5 years of experience in water supply and
sanitation sector
– Must demonstrate experience in hygiene
education, sanitation marketing, community
mobilization and social inclusion
