The World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill an internship position under the Logistics and Transport Services Unit of the Logistics Division. The position will be based at our Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The Internship will be for an initial period of 6 months starting from 21 September 2015.
Augmented Logistics Intervention Team for Emergencies (ALITE) WFP is an operational leader in logistics services, and WFP Logistics provides logistics support to the wider humanitarian community through ALITE or Logistics Cluster. It is made up of experienced and specialist Logisticians, aiming to augment WFP's field operations with a variety of support services.
ALITE is specifically tasked with addressing logistical preparedness as well as providing key operational support during emergencies. This includes management of the logistics corporate response stocks, standby arrangements, and support for the Special Operation projects.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Logistics Officer, responsibilities include:
- Assist in daily administration of Stand-by Partner agreements and secondments;
- Assist in managing Stand-by Partners in support of emergency operations, including liaising closely with Logistics, ICT, programme, procurement, COs, UNHAS and the Logistics Cluster, etc;
- Assist in managing the application and database for the Stand-by capacities;
- Assist to prepare written reports and other documents pertaining to the experiences/lessons learnt in WFP Operations vis-à-vis OSLT/ALITE and the Stand-by personnel;
- Provide support/overflow assistance in managing relationships with the Private sector partners:
- Assist with research and information-gathering regarding the private sector partners.
- Assist in preparing documents, including project document, budget and funding materials, for Logistics Officers (LOs) and WFP senior management.
- Assist in the organization of meetings.
- Assist in monitoring and conducting analysis of significant development cooperation policy themes in logistics for new initiatives.
- Participate in all aspects of team activities, including weekly and strategic meetings.
- Perform any other relevant duties providing support to WFP emergency operations and the work of Logistics/ALITE in general.
Essential Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's in logistics and supply chain management, public policy, economics, journalism, linguistics, business or public administration, law, management, political science, etc.)
- Excellent administrative and communication skills.
- Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study;
- Have attended courses in the last 12 months;
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);
- Must be fluent in English, proficient in editing and proof-reading documents in English. Good command of French desirable.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Suites - Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, able to build a database.

Terms and Conditions
- Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the amount of US$700 per month depending on the duty station.
- WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, travel to and from WFP internship location, necessary visas and costs related.
