Overview:
Project Manager will have broad technical program development responsibilities primarily supporting the Helping Mothers Survive (HMS) Director.  This includes working closely with program implementation teams to ensure that resources are applied appropriately (e.g. human, financial and material). Responsibilities include supervising program staff, overseeing annual work planning, leading the design, implementation and reporting of project activities, representing Jhpiego to donors and partners, management of projects as required and managing human resource systems for the Jhpiego Helping Mothers Survive team. Working closely with the HMS Director, the Project Manager will be responsible for providing day to day management of the Helping Mothers Survive initiative; and representing Jhpiego and Helping Mothers Survive in technical working groups.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide programmatic leadership for, and oversee the strategic planning of activities in support of the program goals and objectives, including the determination of program priorities and appropriate technical initiatives in order to maintain quality at scale
  • Coordinate the work of a diverse team of professionals with their designated counterparts within Laerdal Global Health as well as private sector partners and other key stakeholders such as Ministries of Health and other iNGOs, to ensure effective technical assistance and the smooth implementation of activities
  • Provide assistance to the team during  the design of interventions to include maternal, newborn, and reproductive health ensuring that interventions are technically sound, evidence-based, include high impact practices and are sustainable
  • Represent Jhpiego and Helping Mothers Survive in public and professional circles through meetings, conferences, and presentations
  • Lead the annual work planning process in close collaboration with Laerdal Global Health, other donors, and the program team
  • Ensure timely, accurate and appropriate reporting on HMS program activities and results to the HMS Director
  • Assist with day to day activities for the analysis and synthesis of project data and lead the reporting of Helping Mothers Survive outputs and results in close collaboration with the Director of Helping Mothers Survive, the Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor and other Technical Advisors that support the project
  • Provide guidance and capacity building activities in collaboration with key staff specialists, to subcontractors and subgrantees and coordinate activities with other agencies
  • Review technical components of materials and publications related to Helping Mothers Survive and its development; assist with writing as appropriate
  • Work with ERCO on development and maintenance of HMS webpage and social media pages
  • Advocate on behalf of Jhpiego and HMS with existing and new partners
  • Ensure resources for program implementation are available, including pursuit of additional funds in collaboration with New Program Development team
  • Work with finance and project staff to develop and track project budgets
  • Work closely with Jhpiego home office and field staff to ensure effective, timely and coordinated project implementation
  • Support a team of highly qualified staff and align their efforts in concert with program goals to ensure rapid and sustainable results
  • Liaise with field-based technical staff from Jhpiego and other organizations
  • Coordinate with international professional associations and global bodies such as  UNICEF, UNFPA, ICM, ICN, AAP and others
  • Assist with the development of training curricula and quality improvement systems in maternal and newborn health

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in public health
  • 5 years international health program development and program management experience
  • 3+ years mid-to-senior project management experience in large, multi-year international health sector development programs that have implemented successful activities in areas such as maternal and newborn health
  • Demonstrated strong programmatic knowledge and experience in maternal and newborn health
  • Understanding of local health system and maternal and newborn health gaps and opportunities
  • Significant networking and partnership building skills, including ability to liaise with leaders in health and development fields along with the Helping Mothers Survive technical team
  • Excellent program and financial management skills
  • Expertise in research to practice—identifying best practices and adapting them to project realities
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
  • Field oriented and comfortable with a team approach to programming and the ability to manage several major activities simultaneously
  • Aware of and sensitive to working in multiple socio-economic settings and with multi-cultural groups in a developing country environment
  • Excellent facilitation, oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally 30% of the time
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient French language skills
