EDUCATION COORDINATOR , Children International Zambia


Job Title: Education Coordinator
Office: Central Office (Lusaka)
Location: Lusaka (HQ)
Direct Supervisor: Program Manager
Functional Supervisor: Programs Manager
Position summary
To increase enrolment, retention and educational achievements of sponsored children by encouraging parents to enroll their children, monitoring. Also improving the quality of teaching by mainstream schools in order to increase secondary school completion. Manage the education database and ensure effective implementation of CIZ educational policies.
Description of Job Function and Responsibilities
 Planning, budgeting and implementation of the Education Program
  • Coordinates the preparation of the education work plan and budget for the forthcoming year according to CI guidelines
  • Monitor education program activities and outputs and budgets to ensure accountability and achievement of outcomes
  • Reviews the monthly budget variances report for efficient budget planning and program implementation
  • Provides technical inputs for all Education program activities and supervises Education Field Officers.
  • Conducts regular meetings with Field Officers for updates and consultation and implementation of programs
  • Works with community and government schools to monitor enrollment, attendance & promotion rates of students through school visits, consolidating, interpreting and Obtains & monitors the enrollment, age, grades & school performance of SC & keep track of the movement/plans/priorities of out-of-school children and youth.
  • Develops strategies  to increase achievement of identified learning outcomes among sponsored children/youth
  • Initiates and co-ordinates the implementation of quality Education Campaigns & Awareness Programs within the sponsored community in collaboration with the Program Manager, parents, teachers and community leaders
  • Manage Libraries and the Early Childhood Development program at Center level.
  • Coordinate assistance to children with special conditions
Capacity Development
  • Incorporates cross-cutting issues  (Child protection; Gender and Child and Youth Development Centered) in program execution
  • Improves the  skills and  competencies of teachers, parents attending to sponsored children (including  volunteers, facilitators, field officers, families,)
  • Develops skills of staff implementing the education services program
Program Development; collaboration and networking
  • Coordinates, donor proposal for capacity building initiatives with targeted Community Schools, including teachers, parent committees, administrators and community leaders.
  • Develops strategic collaborative partnerships aimed at enhancing the Education program outcomes and provides input in the formulation of MOUs.
  • Attends & represents the SOA in meetings with relevant institutions to promote education and improve literacy among sponsored families (children, parents & guardians) namely, school PTA, stakeholder’s & MOE meetings.
  • Develop parents and school partnerships to improve quality of education service to sponsored children, the youth & families
Reporting
  • Updates and discusses with the Program Manager and concerned staff issues and concerns in the Education Program.
  • Prepare and submit Quarterly Statistical Report and other reports required by CI on Education Program to Programs Manager /or CIKC as required
  • Maintains updated and accurate data from the respective schools.
  • Ensures systematic filing and maintenance of pertinent records.
  • Manage the performance of direct reports
General

Description of Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelors  Degree in Education
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience, preferably in an INGO education setting
  • Understanding of curriculum standards and an ability to develop educational programs which tie to Zambian standards
  • Certification in Monitoring and Evaluation will be an added advantage.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong written/oral communication and organizational skills are required
  • Strong personal computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook applications
  • Excellent organizational skills; must be detail-oriented and thorough
  • Knowledge of the administrative principles involved in supervising personnel.
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Working knowledge of early childhood programs and fundamental skills programming
