Mine Captain job in Zambia

Lubambe Copper Mine is located within the Greater Konkola Area of the Zambia Copperbelt and consists of a large-scale mining license covering an area of approximately 240 squares kilometers. The mine is a modern, world class facility with fully mechanized underground operations.
Lubambe Copper Mine is a joint venture agreement between African Rainbow Minerals (ARM)/VALE, SA and ZCCM Investment Holding Plc.
The Mine will produce 45,000 tonnes of contained copper at steady state and will employ approximately 1,500 people. The investors have invested total capital of US$490 million in Plant infrastructure consisting of a Concentrator plant, a laboratory and new tailings disposal facility and underground infrastructure. The Concentrator incorporates crushing, milling, floatation and filtration. The design capacity is 2.5 MTPA of the ore at an average mill grade of 2.1 % copper, yielding 45, 000 tonnes of contained copper in concentrated to be sold to smelters in Zambia.
The company requires the services of a motivated person to fill the position of Mine Captain. This position shall report to the Underground Manager.
Mine Captain
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and oversee all mining development and production operations in compliance with Mining Regulation, Explosives Regulations and Safety standards
  • Plan and co-ordinate daily, weekly, monthly and annual sectional development and production activities
  • Meet set development and production targets in line with company budget
  • Ensure effective allocation and utilisation of manpower and equipment
  • Enforce Discipline among employees for industrial harmony and maximum production output
  • Train and develop subordinates for succession planning
Qualifications
  • Preferred Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering from a reputable institution
  • Must be a holder of a valid Blasting License and First Aid Certificate
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in the Mining industry on trackless operations
  • Computer Literate
  • Understanding and enforcement of both Mining Explosives Regulations
  • Understanding and interpretation of Mine plans survey Lay outs
  • Report writing skills
  • Knowledge of modern drilling and blasting techniques
  • Knowledge in mining budgeting, planning and monitoring mining operations efficiencies

The Company requires the services of a motivated person to fill the position of Financial Controller. This position shall report to the Manager Finance and Administration.
Financial Controller
Job purposeThe incumbent will report to the Finance Manager and be responsible for the full financial accounting function, including cash/Treasury, Accounts Payable and Receivable, Capital Control
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Lead the financial accounting function
  • Implementation/maintenance of appropriate systems of internal control
  • Compilation of Standard operating procedures and policies with regards to the financial accounting function
  • Ensure efficient execution of bank and related transactions; cash flow management and forecasts; internal and external loan accounts
  • Oversee all activities within financial accounting department including general ledger, treasury, capital expenditure, working capital
  • Timeous preparation of monthly financial information required for management reports
  • Ensure financial accounts are maintained in line with statutory requirements and comply IFRS
  • Ensure compliance with all loan/borrowings agreements
  • Co-ordinates and plan internal and external audits
  • Full external audit responsibility
  • Compilation of annual accounting packs and completion of Annual Financial Statements
  • Ensure effective subordinate development through updated training and development interventions for the staff members
Qualifications
  • Full ACCA, B. Comm. Honours Degree in Financial and/or Management Accounting
  • Minimum eight years in financial/management accounting environment in a mining industry
  • A professional qualification e.g CA or CIMA Qualification will be a distinct advantage
  • Experience in Mining Tax
  • Experience of Integrated Database Systems (e.g Sun Systems) and advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • A thorough business understanding will be a prerequisite
  • Must have high level of integrity

Underground Manager  – (5 Positions)
Job purposeTo assist the Mine Manager in supervising day to day site works in order to ensure satisfactory achievement of set targets in terms of production, safety, quality and schedule
Duties include:
  • Ensure the principles of SAFEMINE are applied and adhered to
  • Plan, organise, monitor and control mining operations
  • Ensure that production targets are achieved economically, safely and in accordance with mining, explosives and domestic regulations
  • Plan and control budget expenditure and resource utilisation to ensure that short, medium and long term plans for production, capital investment and labour requirements are formulated
Minimum requirements
  • Degree in Mining Engineering
  • Fifteen years’ experience in Mining, eight years should be at senior management level
