COUNTRY ACCOUNTANT - Plan International Zambia

Working in Zambia since 1996, Plan International Zambia’s development and capacity building programmes focus primarily on Education, Health, Water and Sanitation, Economic Security and Youth Empowerment, including Child Protection and Participation. Plan International Zambia has programme units in; Central, Luapula, and Eastern Provinces including in Lusaka, where the Country Office is located.
We are looking for an experienced, innovative, motivated, self-starter individual to fill the following vacancy:
Country Accountant – Country Office (1)
Position Description
Job Purpose:
The position is responsible for general accounting at the Country Office, and supporting the Programme Units (PUs) to ensure correct accounting of transaction. S/he will also facilitate the generation of financial and management information, and reports as required internally including externally.
The position reports to the Country Finance Manager.
Responsibilities include:
  • Managing the accounting role within the organisation
  • Timely preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports and year end schedules
  • Assist in developing and managing Country Office and Programme Unit budgets
  • Budgetary control and analysis
  • Treasury management and cash flow forecasting
  • Establish and maintain  internal controls  and ensure system procedures are adhered to
  • Payroll maintenance in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Undertaking  periodic field visits and assisting in conducting trainings and project monitoring
Individual Specifications include:
  • 3-5 years experience in a similar role.
  • A degree in accounting plus full professional accounting qualification such as ACCA/CIMA.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial systems, budgeting, financial management, and reporting.
  • Well versed in computerised accounting applications and spread sheets.
  • Experience in an NGO environment will be an added advantage
