FINANCE ASSISTANT

Job Title: Finance Assistant
Reporting to: Country Finance Manager
Job Purpose: Support the Country Finance Manager in the management of the VSO Country Office finances.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the Finance Manager in effectively managing the finances of the Country Office, ensuring adherence to global and local financial policies and procedures. S/he will also be responsible for processing all country office payments, petty cash management, ensuring that bank and cash accounts are reconciled at least on a monthly basis. S/he will process all Country Office financial transactions into SUN5 and produce accurate financial reports in accordance with agreed deadlines. The job holder should be able to use the system to monitor programme incomes and expenditure against unrestricted and restricted funds, providing variance analysis and managing donor reporting timelines and ensuring reports are produced accurately and in a timely manner. S/he will support the Finance Manager and the People and Operations Managers in preparing budgets as well as quarterly budget reviews and reports as necessary.
The Essential requirements for this post are:
  • Part qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ZICA level three, ideally studying to complete an accounting qualification; Degree in Accounting, Finance or related degree),
  • Good technical accounting skills including financial planning, book keeping practice and principles, knowledge of internal controls, general ledger, cash management and reconciliations, payroll processing and taxation.
  • Experience in financial reporting, measurement and analysis including donor financial reporting and procurement procedures.
  • Experience in rules and regulations for non-profit organisations.
  • Experience in working with multiple foreign currencies and understanding of foreign exchange hedging
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Registered member of ZICA
  • A valid driving permit licence is an added advantage.
