JOBS IN ZAMBIA AT Chemonics International Inc


Chemonics International Inc., a U.S.-based international development consulting firm, seeks experienced professionals for two anticipated early grade reading improvement projects. The Zambia Sustainable and Effective Education Delivery 1 (SEED 1) and 2 (SEED 2) projects will assist the Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education to improve the reading abilities of primary school students nationwide. SEED 1 and 2 will provide primary school textbooks and learning materials in seven local languages and English, improve reading pedagogy and instruction, conduct regular student testing, and institutionalize continuous learner assessment and impact measures to gauge the effectiveness of education interventions. Chemonics has a history of project implementation in Zambia including the Strengthening Education Performance –Up (STEP UP) project and the recent Zambia Communications Support for Health (CSH) Project.  STEP-Up works to integrate and strengthen systems for improved decision-making and promote equity as a central them in policy development and education management reform. Zambian nationals are highly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must demonstrate mastery of at least one of these technical competency areas:
  • Project Management
  • In-service teacher coaching
  • Early grade reading instruction
  • Early grade reading assessment
  • Reading materials development
  • Book publishing / supply chain
  • Remedial reading instruction
  • Reading curriculum development
  • Multilingual reading instruction
  • Education policy and advocacy
  • Gender and disability education
  • Quantitative and qualitative monitoring and evaluation
  • USAID contract management and administrative operations
  • Grants and subcontracts management
  • Project financial management
  • Community engagement/behavior change communications
  • Mobile technology applications for education
Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant field
  • Experience managing large, donor-funded early grade reading or education projects in Southern Africa and/or Zambia
  • USAID program experience preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in written and oral English required
