Rural Electrification Authority is a statutory body established pursuant to the enactment of the Rural Electrification Act No. 20 of the Laws of Zambia of 2003. One of the main functions of the Authority is to facilitate availability and access to electricity by all Zambians living in the rural areas by extending the national grid and/or through the installation of isolated grids using renewable energy sources such as mini-hydros, solar, wind and others.

Information Officer

Job purposeThe main purpose of the job is to lead the development and implementation of effective public relations polices, strategies and practices to promote the institutional corporate profile of the Authority and its programs and activities thereby increasing public awareness and participation in rural electrification issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication or Journalism
• Minimum five years relevant post qualifying working experience in a  media organisation
• Must be less than 40 years of age

Duties

• Conducting public awareness campaigns to enhance support and participation in the rural electrification programs
• Coordinating stakeholder awareness programs such as media receptions, press briefings, facility visits, project commissioning, exhibitions and meetings
• Writing, compilation and publication of quarterly corporate newsletter
• Publication of institutional information for both print and electronic media
• Ensure periodic publication and efficient updating of information on the Authority’s website and other social media
• Preparing answers to queries raised by the media or any interest groups and members of the public
• Monitoring print and electronic media coverage of rural electrification issues with a view to projecting a positive image of the institution
• Attending to advertising needs of the Authority
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor from time to time
