Background:
African Parks is a non-profit organization that takes total responsibility for the rehabilitation and long term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. African Parks Zambia ( A company limited by shares) has signed a management agreement for the management of LPNP and has been in existence for the last 11 years.

Job overview
The Assistant Community Program Manager is responsible for assisting the Community Manager in facilitating, promoting and ensuring community planning development and monitoring empowerment initiatives. The Assistant Community Program Manager is a key member of the senior management team of Liuwa Plain National Park and his/her role includes the following aspects:
- Management of outreach activities for community at large. This includes but is not limited to write-up website updates, organization of African Parks´ participation in public events, radio shows, displays, presentations, etc.
- Assisting in the coordination of Liuwa Community Development Board activities
- Assisting in the supervision of community projects funded by African Parks
- Assisting in the management of Environmental Education programmes
- Assisting with the development of strong working relationships with traditional authorities, government institutions, NGOs and CBOs.
What success looks like in 3 years
- Land use regulations are fully abided by communities living inside the park
- Government departments, NGOs and as well as private companies, at district and provincial level, understand the extent of African Parks rights and responsibilities as the management entity of Liuwa Plain NP
- Fishing governance is abided for and fishing is fully integrated with the ecological needs of the park
- There is a notable reduction in poaching incidents in the park. Likewise community involvement in information leading to arrests increases.
- The extent and characteristics of human wildlife conflict incidents are fully understood and incidents are efficiently dealt and in accordance with park regulations.
- Conservation clubs inside and outside the park are fully functional in each of the schools
Key measures and targets
- Assisting in the growth of the community programme
- Assisting in the successful implementation of Land Use Plan.
Qualifications and experience required
- Degree/Diploma in Natural Resources/Wildlife/Rural Development Management
- 5 Years and above in the same fields.
- A clean and valid driving license
Capabilities and competencies needed for the job
- Ability to communicate in Silozi
- Knowledge of working with traditional authorities as this will be required to collaborate with The Barotse Royal Establishment at all levels
- Knowledge of local and regional development potential and opportunities in Western Province
- Knowledge of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Services Act and its implications for communities
- Knowledge of environmental education programs
- Excellent computer skills, ability to use Microsoft Application packages (Word, Excel, Publisher, Access).
- Good people skills and ability to supervise and motivate staff effectively
- Ability to resolve conflicts, effective negotiation and mediation skills
- Ability to work in remote and physically demanding circumstances
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong team building and decision making skills
- Effective verbal, presentation and listening communications skills
- Ability to travel within the Kalabo district, specifically Liuwa Plain National Park.
