The Zambia Country Program portfolio includes projects across priority health programs such as malaria, nutrition and immunization as well as policy and advocacy with funding from USAID and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. With an anticipated staff establishment of 80 in 2016, the PATH Zambia office is fast growing and the second largest office in Africa.
PATH is seeking to recruit an experienced and qualified Driver who will be responsible for driving the Zambia Country Program vehicle for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of payments and mail, documents and other items. The Driver will also be responsible for picking up Zambia Country Program and other designated PATH staff who are on international travel at the airport. This position will be based in Lusaka.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Driving the PATH Country Program Leader and Staff to field sites around the country, whenever requested.
- Ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
- Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely re-fueling of vehicle, timely change of oil, check tyre pressure, brakes, car wash, etc.
- Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle log, first aid kit, necessary service parts etc.
- Ensure that all immediate actions required by Road Traffic laws and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
- Be available to render support in the administrative office, both in the office and for out of station missions such as collection of quotations and photocopying of documents as assigned.
Required Skills
- Valid clean Class C driving license.
- Excellent understanding of Zambia Highway Code
- Defensive driving training, basic mechanical training, first aid training/certificate a plus.
- Able to drive a vehicle off road (i.e. 4 wheel driving).
- Self-motivated and friendly personality.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and ability to appropriately prioritize competing tasks.
- Effective time management and able to work under time pressures.
- Proven ability to work in a dynamic team environment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to relate to different cultures and nationalities.
- Work experience in the development sector/international non-profit organization.
Required Experience
Post-secondary diploma or certificate plus a minimum of two to five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; minimum of 5 years professional driving experience with a reputable organization is required; experience in an international organization or in a multicultural environment, preferably with a health or development focus, is desired.
