UNICEF Zambia is looking for a suitable qualified candidate to fill the following vacancy;
WASH Specialist – on Temporary Appointment, NO-C (National Officer Category), for 364 days to be based in Lusaka. The Officer will be under the general supervision of the Chief of WASH.
The major duties and responsibilities will be in the area assisting UNICEF WASH in leading the Cooperating Partners Group (CPG) and serve as the main administrator/coordinator for communication among CPG members, sector leads and the Troika. Liaise with sector leads to gather sector updates prior to CPG meetings and convey feedback. Support strategic sector reforms by liaising with the Chairs of the Technical Working Groups operated under the leadership of MLGH (including TWGs on Sanitation, Management Information System, Urban Sanitation) in the preparation for and conduct of TWG meetings. Support ODF Zambia 2020 strategy coordination and review by supporting Task Force preparation, agenda and minutes and assist Task Force in gathering ODF updates on ODF from implementing partners and organizing annual/bi-annual reviews. Facilitate policy level dialogue for increased funding for sector (particularly sanitation) arrange meeting with MoF and assist in preparation of briefing materials. Support development and implementation of other relevant sector policies and strategies by supporting implementation of the Urban Sanitation Strategy (USS) developed (including focus on equity for sanitation in peri-urban areas) and Capacity Development Strategy (CDS) particularly in the 10 provinces to manage national WASH Programmes and the WASH Information Management System.
Requirements: An advanced university degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Public Health, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, Hydrology, Sanitation Engineering, Political and Social Sciences, or a field relevant to international WASH related development assistance. Additional training in Social Policy, Public financing or related, an asset. Five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in the UN or other international development organization, national government or the private sector. Field work experience.
Applicants must possess proven ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form; specific skills in report writing and editing, ability to research, analyze, evaluate and synthesize information, excellent teamwork skills, high level of fluency in written and spoken English, computer skills, including internet navigation, and various office applications required.
