CARE International in Zambia under the Food and Nutrition Security and Enhanced Resilience (FANSER) Project in Katete District of Eastern province is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced staff for the following position:
DEVELOPMENT OFFICER – NUTRITION
Job Summary
The Nutritionist will be responsible for facilitating the planning, implementation and monitoring of field activities and direct liaison with Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Community Development, Local Government and Housing. S/he will have strong expertise in agriculture, food and nutrition and will work closely with field staff from the Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and Community Development. S/he will also be responsible for providing technical support to partner staff to strengthen their capacity for planning and implementation of field activities on health, agriculture, food security and nutrition including water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) including the delivery of health, agriculture and nutrition extension services to targeted communities and households.
Specific deliverables, responsibilities and tasks
- Facilitate the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of agricultural, health and nutrition field activities and direct liaison with Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Community Development and Local Government and Housing.
- Work closely with field staff from the Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Local Government and Housing and Community Development to strengthen their capacity for planning and delivery of health, agriculture, food and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) extension services to targeted communities and households.
- Oversee field level M&E processes and ensure timely inputs for reporting and accountability; constant liaison with M&E Officer for field data collection, analysis and reporting
- Conduct supportive supervisory visits to monitor implementation of all health, agricultural, food and nutrition and WASH activities including training of partner field staff and community based structures such as the Ward Nutrition Coordinating Committees (WNCCs), Neighborhood Health Committees (NHCs) and Camp Agriculture Committees (CACs).
- Ensure compliance with CARE and donor policies, criteria and procedures with respect to project implementation
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Diploma in Nutrition/Food and Nutrition from a recognized university/college with strong expertise in Agriculture and a minimum of 3 years working experience in a similar position. A BSc Degree in Nutrition will be an added advantage.
- Good knowledge of Infant and Young Child Feeding and maternal nutrition programmes and guidelines.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing/delivery of health, agriculture, food and nutrition programmes/extension services in development settings
- Knowledge and experience in Nutrition and WASH related activities will be an added advantage
- Proven experience with practical and impactful gender equity and women’s empowerment approaches to development and humanitarian action.
- Knowledge of use of computers essential, including word processing and excel/spreadsheets
- Added advantages includes:

- Experience working with communities and ability to speak the local language
- Experience working in an international non-governmental organization
- Good facilitation and participatory methodology skills
